Cape Lookout Light, Harkers Island, NC

Cape Lookout Light, on the outer banks of North Carolina, was established in 1812 and the current lighthouse is the second at this location and built in 1859. It is and painted with a distinctive black and white diamond pattern as to differentiate it from similar lighthouses of Cape Hatteras and Bodie Island. These patterns also point out direction with the black diamonds pointing north-south and the white diamonds pointing east- west.
