Cape Hatteras Light, Bodie Island, NC

Cape Hatteras Light is the tallest in the nation, and perhaps the most famous lighthouse in the world. It was rescued from erosion in 1999, when it was moved 1600 feet to its current location. Established on 1803, it helps guide ships around Diamond Shoals, where shifting sands extend more than ten miles from the Cape. Over two thousand ships have foundered and sunk in that treacherous stretch of water, known as “The Graveyard of the Atlantic.
