Bodie Island Light, Bodie Island, NC

Bodie Island Light was originally established in 1848, and replaced in 1859. The second light was blown up by the Confederated less then two years later to keep it out of Union hands. In 1872 the current lighthouse was built using some of the left over materials from the Cape Hatteras lighthouse. The lighthouse helps guide ships past the shoals of the Outer Banks of North Carolina and the “Graveyard of the Atlantic.”
