Barnegat Light, Barnegat, NJ
Barnegat Light, known as "Old Barney", is located on the northern tip of Long Beach Island, in Barnegat, New Jersey, on the south side of Barnegat Inlet. Lt. George G. Meade, an Army engineer and later a Union General in the American Civil War, was assigned to design a new lighthouse. The current tower was built in 1857. A new beacon atop the tower now shines forth from dusk to dawn.
