Avery Point Lighthouse, Groton, CT

Avery Point Lighthouse on the campus of the University  of Connecticut was built as a memorial to all other lighthouses and light keepers. Completed in 1943, during World War II, it was not immediately lighted due to concerns about possible enemy invasions by sea. It finally went into service in 1944. The light was deactivated in1967. The lighthouse was restored and rededicated in 2006.
