Assateague-Lighthouse
There was no light between the Delaware and Chesapeake bays, so in 1833 the Assateague Lighthouse was completed a few miles south of the VA-Maryland border. Originally it was too low and had to be raised in height. This work was delayed due to the Civil War, but was completed1867.
