Amelia Island, Amelia Island, GA

The Amelia Island Lighthouse on the barrier island off northern Florida was first constructed in 1820, and was initially build on Little Cumberland Island, the southern most of Georgia’s islands.  The height of the tower was only fifty-feet, and marked the entrance to the St. Mary’s River.  In 1839, the Lighthouse Board moved the structure brick by brick to Amelia Island, a more strategic location for navigation in the area.
